These Women Made Even Gods Fall Head Over Heels For Them.

Apsaras are celestial singers and dancers who are the wives of Ghandharvas. Ghandharvas serves Indra, god of the heaven. To please god Indra they plays music to which their wives dances in the celestial palaces.

According to Hindhu Mythology these Apsaras were born from the ocean of Milk when gods are looking for lost “elixir of immortality” in ocean. They are born with beauty to distract all senses of men. They overcome both mortal and immortal men with their unsurpassed beauty and elegance. Mostly, Gods send these Apsaras on earth to seduce sages and breakdown their meditation. But there were times, when smitten by their beauty, many sages and even gods themselves fell in love with them.

 URVASHI

 URVASHI- Apsarasa

Urvashi was a nymph who can control heart of others ( “Ur” means heart and “Vash” means control). She was a celestial maiden in Lord Indra’s court and was considered as the most beautiful nymph of all the Apsaras. She was youthful and charming but deceptive. Urvashi was involved with chief Pururava. They both fell in love and had a son. As per the curse on her she should return to Devloka when Pururava and her son met each other.


RAMBHA

Apsarasa RAMBHA

According to Hindhu Mythology Rambha is the Queen of the Apsarases. She is inimitable in arts of dancing, music and beauty. Lord Indra send her to disturb Rishi Vishwamitra who is doing meditation to become as a Brahmarishi. She succeeded in disturbing his meditation but she cursed by him to become a rock for 10,000 years.
According to Ramayana, Raavana tried to molest her. But she cursed him that if he ever tries to abuse any other women his head would burst.

MOHINI

Apsarasa MOHINI

Mohini is the form of the god Vishnu. She is portrayed as an enchantress, who maddens lovers, sometimes leading them to their doom. Lord Vishnu took Mohini form to break the Lord Shiva’s deep meditation. Mohini succeeded in distracting Lord Shiva from meditation. Shiva at his first look stunned with beauty of Mohini. He was so madly enchanted by Mohini. He grabbed her hand with passion and procreated with her. As a result, a son was born named Ayyapan.

TILOTTAMA

Apsarasa TILOTTAMA

Tilottama was said to be born out of illusion of Visvakarma. She was created by taking best quality of everything as ingredient and made as Apsara. She was of exquisite beauty and alluring charm attracting Asuras Sunda and Upasunda. She was the reason for mutual destruction of Asuras Sunda and Upasunda. Even gods like Indra and Shiva were said to be enamoured of Tilottama.


MENAKA


Apsarasa MENAKA

Menaka was only Apsara with quick intelligence and intent talent but desired for a family. Lord Indra feared with the powers of Vishwamitra. So he sent her to woo Rishi Vishwamitra to distract him from meditation. Menaka with her beauty seduced Vishwamitra and succeeded in spoiling his meditation. However, she fell in love with him. Later a baby was born to them named as Shakuntala.
