Devavarman - Fourth successor king after Ashoka Maurya


Devavarman was the fourth successor king after Ashoka Maurya. He ruled Mauryan empire from 202 B.C. to 195 B.C (1320 to 1313 B.C.E as per new translations). According to puranas, he succeeded Salisuka to become the emperor of
Mauryan kingdom. He was also called as "Devadharman" or "Somasarman".



The Mauryan empire lost its glory and started to collapse after the death of Ashoka the great. The rulers after Ashoka were not efficient and the religious policies taken by Ashoka showed a great effect on other religious sects of kingdom and it also added for the downfall of Mauryan empire after his death. Devavarman was one of those rulers after the death of Ashoka the king.



Devavarman ruled for almost seven years. He was succeeded by "Shatadhanvan".
